About Nicholas Green

As a freelance I proofread international/EU law books involving French mark-up. I welcome humanities-related material in either hard-copy or electronic format. I use the Perfectit3 and PDFXChange Editor proofreading software in my work.

Since 2012 I have proofread academic books for Cambridge University and University of Wales Presses: sixteen titles on international/EU law, five on Greek and Roman ancient history, four on linguistics, phonetics, philosophy and one on environmental science. Other projects have included:
biography, autobiography, biblical commentary, three student dissertations, British Red Cross year books, a crime thriller and literary journal, client references being available for both the latter.

Following a BA Honours degree in Law and French, for twenty years I worked as a Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, painstakingly compiling vital statistics. Client confidentiality was of paramount importance as was the need to work under one’s own initiative within tight legal parameters, the latter consistent in my view with respecting the ‘author’s voice’.

In 2011 I completed the Publishing Training Centre’s Basic Proofreading by Distance Learning course (pass with merit). I completed the Society for Editors and Proofreaders’ mentoring scheme prior to attending three of its day courses: Proofreading Problems, Brush up your grammar and Practical mark-up of PDFs.

I am a Professional Member of the SfEP and am an active member of its North-West group.
