Hello, I am Claire – a small business owner providing writing, editing and proofreading services!

Prior to starting my own business, I was an English language and literature teacher and a primary teacher for more than twelve years. Within these roles I taught and marked (edited!) writing and critical analysis essays on a daily basis and reflected on their content to inform further teaching.

Alongside teaching, I began examining GCSE English language and literature scripts online, which I have done for four years and still do annually. This role involves reading hundreds of candidates’ responses within tight deadlines and assessing every one based on mark schemes for content, and spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Currently, as the owner of Penning and Planning, I am committed to on-going industry recognised training including Proofreading 1: Introduction (The Society for Editors and Proofreaders), Editing Fiction (The Publishing Training Centre) and Successful Editorial Freelancing (The Publishing Training Centre) in order to sharpen my existing proofreading and editing skills.
