ARThompson Proofreading and Copy-Editing

I’m a freelance copy-editor and proofreader who will work with any fiction or creative non-fiction, including poems, short stories, novels, memoirs, essays, and articles. No job is too big or too small, or too niche or too weird – if there’s text to edit, I’ll edit it. Free, no-obligation sample edits are available on request.
I have trained with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and the Publishing Training Centre, and am an Intermediate Member of the CIEP.
I can work on PDFs (comments), Microsoft Word (comments and track changes), or Google Docs (comments and suggestions). I offer basic formatting* as part of copy-editing at no extra cost, which includes imposing consistent fonts and stylistic elements. In the case of Word, I can also apply Styles.
I’m familiar with regional differences in English, and can edit US, UK, Canadian and Australian English.
My services are flexible and affordable, including student rates for academic proofreading, and I aim to make the editing side of the creative process as smooth as possible. (And if you’ve never worked with an editor before, no worries: I’m also a self-published author, so I’m familiar with both sides of the process, and I’m happy to advise on editing services without creating any obligation for us to work together). I deeply value every author’s creative voice and vision, and enjoy finding creative ways to keep these intact while ensuring that texts are error-free, accessible for their intended readers, and fit for purpose.
