I am a freelance copyeditor and proofreader, specialising in shipping and law. I work with businesses on the full range of business documents, and with publishers and individuals on books, essays and other projects. I am originally from Yorkshire, but I am now based in Cambridgeshire.
I am a qualified solicitor (currently non-practising) and spent over ten years specialising in shipping litigation, personal injury and travel claims. I have edited legal and shipping publications such as magazines, bulletins, books and legal documents including medico-legal reports, court documents and articles. Much of this experience has involved working with writers from different jurisdictions, often writing in English as their second (or third/fourth) language.
Outside law, I edit and proofread non-fiction texts for publishers, businesses and individuals, including brochures, pitch documents, marketing materials, reports, essays and theses, websites, books (including memoir), articles and blog posts. I am particularly interested in medicine and health, parenting, memoir, history and music. I also enjoy editing fiction, primarily sci-fi and fantasy: I’m a big fantasy fan and love the world-building elements involved in fantasy writing.
