Academic, arts, humanities, social sciences, exhibition catalogues, food and drink, business reports, reflective writing, poetry and short stories — I am happy to consider any proofreading or copy-editing assignment, but these are the main areas that I work in.
I’m Cathy Turner, a copy-editor and proofreader with extensive experience of working on a whole range of projects. I help authors and publishers to refine their manuscripts; I also work with clients outside traditional publishing such as students, artists, business owners and administrators. If words are at the core of your work, I can help you. My guiding principle is to ensure accuracy, clarity and consistency, all done with a dash of elegance and absolute respect for the author’s voice. Every job is different, but my aim is always the same—to do as much or as little required to make sure that my client’s text is the best it can be.
How I can help you
From a rigorous copy-edit, clarifying ideas and eradicating inconsistencies, to a final proofread, lending a fresh pair of eyes to pick up any issues of syntax or spelling, I can help. I understand about deadlines. I can handle pernickety grammar conundrums. I dream of spelling bees and decline verbs in my sleep. More importantly, I will respect your voice and your vision as a writer.

To provide a reasonable quote, I need the total word count, deadline information and a sample of the work (around two pages or 500 words). For smaller jobs of 1000 words or less, I charge a flat fee of £18 for proofreading and £23 for copy-editing.
I am an Intermediate Member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders and always strive for excellence by following the SfEP Code of Practice.
