I am an academic editor, historian, archaeologist and author. I am a SfEP-trained proofreader and intermediate member.
I have specialist knowledge of archaeology and medieval history, having worked as a researcher and lecturer in these subjects for over seven years. I have a broad historical knowledge as a result of teaching on survey courses on Representing the Past in Film and marking assessed work on topics as diverse as feminism in history and Iron Age Yorkshire.

I have been the editor of Northern Studies, the interdisciplinary journal of Scottish Society for Northern Studies, for the last five years. The journal focuses on the connections between Scandinavia and Scotland from the medieval to the modern era and ranges from archaeological and onomastic studies, via history and ethnology, to linguistic and literary research. This means that I have significant experience of editing work outside my main areas of expertise.

I am accustomed to editing in Microsoft Word using Track Changes and using the BSI proofreading symbols in Adobe ADFs.
I am familiar with different referencing styles such as Harvard, Chicago and MHRA footnotes. I was responsible for rewriting the Northern Studies style guide in order to professionalise the journal ensuring a consistent style for all contributions.
I have edited and proofread five volumes of Northern Studies. The articles published ranged from eighteenth-century Shetland, late medieval Stewart kings and Ireland, assemblies in the Islendinga saga, the letters of a seventeenth-century Scots soldier abroad and the Scandinavian Dimension in Modern Scottish Literature.
I am the editor of a volume on Bishops’ Identities, Careers and Networks in Medieval Europe to be published in the Medieval Church Studies series by Brepols. Twelve of the thirteen contributors are non-native English speakers and I have edited their papers to ensure a consistent standard of written English.

I am an author with a monograph, The Parish and the Chapel in medieval Norway and Britain, published by Boydell in 2018, and nine peer-reviewed journal and edited volume articles. I am accustomed to proofreading my author proofs and clearly identifying any errors.
