Non-fiction and fiction proofreader – I work with a wide range of written materials: books, chapters, articles for journals, magazines and web sites.
If you are proud of your work and would like a trained professional to give it that final check before releasing it into the world, you’re in the right place.
Your words need someone qualified to proofread them. I trained with the Publishing Training Centre to formalise my proofreading skills and passed with distinction, their highest grade. I am currently studying their Essential Copy-Editing course which will allow me to offer industry-standard copy-editing in due course. Passing these courses allows you to be confident that I have the skills required to edit your work.
I have also been through the editing process for my own fiction writing and understand that it can be a nerve-wracking experience, particularly when you’ve put your heart and soul into it.
You will find that I am friendly, easy to work with and I will work to our agreed deadline – so that you know that your document will be ready on time. Working in the business world taught me to be precise and deliver what the client needs by listening to them. I do not re-write your work, but I may make suggestions if something is ambiguous, or there are inconsistencies.
I can work in the following media:
– Microsoft Word using Track Changes
– PDF using the commenting tools, or BSI symbols
– Hard copy (paper!)
– Proofreading ‘blind’ or against copy – this is where a copy-editor may have already suggested edits and I check that they have been applied correctly, as well as the proofreading.
My interests range from British history, family histories, historical fiction, contemporary literature, crime, and classics (Austen, Dickens, etc.) to business and UK taxation. So, if your manuscript fits any of these I would be delighted to proofread it. If in doubt, please ask and I look forward to working with you.
