Experienced, professional proofreader and copy-editor, working in non-fiction. I help businesses, organisations and individuals produce material that is polished, well presented, grammatically correct and error-free.

What type of material?
I work mostly but not exclusively in non-fiction. If you produce books, magazines, business plans, policy documents, marketing materials, dissertations, theses, newsletters or website content, I can help you.

I proofread and copy-edit these and many other documents. If you are writing any kind of text, I will work with you to create the best possible impression and to communicate your message clearly, effectively and professionally.

My proofreading and copy-editing interests and experience include the arts, history and natural history, biography, management and cultural policy.
I offer a particular specialism in music: classical music (all periods), electroacoustic music, opera, choral music, film music and jazz. I have proofread concert programmes, programme notes, CD booklets and academic texts on music, having had a 25-year career in music administration and concert promotion before becoming a proofreader and copy-editor.

Training and experience
I trained with the Publishing Training Centre (PTC) and the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP – formerly the Society for Editors and Proofreaders). I am a Professional Member of the CIEP, a member of AFEPI (Association of Freelance Editors, Proofreaders and Indexers of Ireland) and a member of EPANI (Editors’ and Proofreaders’ Alliance of Northern Ireland). I am committed to continuous professional development through PTC, CIEP and other training courses.
My clients include Taylor & Francis, Newgen Publishing, Colourpoint Books, Full Proof, Acis Productions, Queen’s University Belfast, Open College Network Northern Ireland, Genesis Advertising, and individual academics and postgraduate students.

What they say
“I am so relieved to see some of your comments…you’ve nailed a few sentences that I’ve always felt were incredibly awkward, but I was stuck on how to fix them. Not only have you corrected things, but I love how you pointed out why the writing was strange. It’s like a masterclass in writing, and I think it will really help me to avoid pitfalls in the future. …What you have done so far has truly been so helpful! …I can’t thank you enough.” Jessica Cawley, writer and academic
“I finished all the corrections you sent and it is simply AMAZING. I am not being superficial and I am truly impressed.” Olivier Pasquet, PhD student
“Pam is an experienced and meticulous proofreader, and ensures that all our print materials have been produced to an extremely high standard…She also prepares all BMS policy documents, and writes our corporate and business plans…She is always thorough and demonstrates excellent attention to detail.” Ciara Burnell, Former Chair, Belfast Music Society
