Who am I?
Are you looking for a meticulous professional to help you make your material clear, consistent, efficient and attractive?
I’m a trained, experienced copy-editor and proofreader of non-fiction manuscripts and business and academic material, as well as a designer of beautiful books.
My clients
Varying my work helps me to bring energy and fresh eyes to each project. Whether working for an independent writer or an international research group, I aim to help my clients and their texts to communicate authority and professionalism.
Publishers whose books I have worked on include Edinburgh University Press, Karnac Books, Wild Things Publishing, the J. Paul Getty Museum, Pallas Athene Books, Phoenix Publishing House and the Wallace Collection.
I also work reliably and confidentially for businesses and institutions on bids, reports, evaluations, training material, promotional material and websites.
I do not work on marked academic assignments.
My subject areas and styles
The subjects I edit include history, politics, economics, psychology, urban studies, cultural studies, literary criticism, travel, nature, photography, music, art and cookery.
My style preference is Oxford’s Hart’s Rules, but I’m happy using any style guide. I’m also accurate and consistent in both UK and US English.
My methods of working and communication
My preferred method of working is using tracked changes in Microsoft Word but I am also proficient in using PDF mark-up tools and marking up on paper.
My skills and experience also include design, layout and typesetting. Employing me to do this work together with editing and proofreading can significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of a project’s workflow.
At the start of any project, I discuss in detail with the client the work they would like me to do and the ideal methods of working and communication for the material.
My education
• MA Cultural Studies, distinction
• BA (Hons) English, 1st-class
• Certificate of English Language Teach to Adults (CELTA), Pass B
• A-levels: English Literature (A), English Language (A), Maths (A), Psychology (A) and General Studies (A)
My rates
I base my rates on those recommended by the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), of which I am a member. However, I will always consider working for a reduced rate for those who have limited funds and are working towards social change.
Please get in touch to discuss your project, your needs and your preferred ways of working.
