Hi. My name is Kate, and I have been working with words for most of my adult life.
I am a copy-editor, proofreader and editorial project manager with experience of working on books, journals and digital products, both in-house at large publishing houses and in a freelance capacity. My background is in psychology, linguistics and education, but I have turned my hand to a wide variety of subjects over the years.
Whether you’re a publishing house looking to expand your team of editorial freelancers, a business in need of an expert eye to check over marketing materials or annual reports, or an individual wanting to fine-tune your dissertation, I can offer you a professional, friendly and reliable service.
Prior to setting up Short Editorial, I worked as Assistant Editor on the journal Trends in Cognitive Sciences at STM publisher Elsevier, and then as Desk Editor at Hodder Education, managing an extensive range of titles on the Psychology, Early Years and Health & Social Care lists. My in-house experience has provided me with a firm understanding of the processes and decisions behind bringing a product to press, and the potential challenges along the way. In turn, this has informed the way I work with my clients.
As a Professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), you can rest assured that I have met the standards and expertise required to provide a quality service. I am also a firm believer in professional development and as such have completed editorial training with both the CIEP and the Publishing Training Centre. I also hold a BA (Hons) in Linguistics (2.i) and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Distinction).
If you are looking for an editorial professional to work with you on your next project, I would be delighted to hear from you.
