White House Editorial is a proofreading and copywriting business run by Helen White.
I have 20 years of editorial experience working with corporate clients, publishers, independent authors and students. I write and edit reports and marketing material for businesses and proofread theses, dissertations and books. Publishing clients include Bloomsbury, Cambridge University Press, Taylor & Francis and Hodder Education.
I’m an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), formerly known as the SfEP. I trained with the SfEP and with the Publishing Training Centre, and I’ve been a tutor on the CIEP’s proofreading courses since 2017.
I regularly work with non-native English speakers; for eight years I’ve proofread for the Swiss device manufacturer Endress+Hauser, checking their German to English translations of technical documents and marketing material. I also have clients in Poland, Turkey and Hong Kong and have worked with many ESL students.
I’m happy to work across a range of subjects but have particular experience in media/journalism, business, theatre/drama, history, politics and education.

Helen did a wonderful job. I am quite new to writing and publishing and I had already copy-edited my manuscript beforehand and so I came to Helen for proofreading. Helen took a quick look and informed me that she felt it needed slightly more than a proofread – a lite edit – and with hindsight I’m so glad she recommended this. She then went on to do, as I say, a wonderful job. I can’t thank her enough.
I run a writing group, I’m currently doing an MA in Creative Writing plus I’m a freelance writer. I was contacted by a proofreading company ‘Novel Intent’ asking me to recommend them to members of my writing group and to post about them. I said I would have to use their services first. The first piece of work they did for me was great, the second they had missed a spelling mistake and changed the paragraph order of a letter. I contacted them back, asking them in future to look for mistakes but not to change the order of the work. I then sent two more pieces in Decemeber – and paid. In January I had still heard nothing! The deadline for my work was looming and I didn’t have my work back, they did not response to emails. I was desperate. I contacted every proof reader I knew – they all rejected my work because of the lack of time. Thankfully Helen came back to me. She proof read my work to a high standard in a very short period of time, she responded to all emails. I can not recommend her highly enough. It is very difficult finding a a good proof reader – as I have learnt to my cost you also need to find a proof reader who takes a professional approach and understand that this is a business relationship.
Thank you so much Helen. I honestly don’t know what I would habve done if you hadn’t helped.
Mrs. Helen give me a great help and she is very patient. My essay is more fluent than before. Thanks a lot.
