About Adept Editing

Trained as a linguist, I founded Adept Editing after a career as a researcher and lecturer at a number of institutions in UK higher education. After an undergraduate degree in Modern Languages (First Class), I completed a Masters (awarded with Distinction) and a PhD in comparative literature and politics before working for more than ten years in university teaching and research posts. In that time, I developed my writing and editing skills through my own research outputs and the editorship of an international academic journal, as well as successfully supervising students at undergraduate, Masters, and doctoral level, many of them from China, Eastern Europe, and the Arab-speaking world.

With that background it was natural that Adept started out specialising in academic writing and editing, with a particular focus editing the work of researchers and postgraduate students who were working through English as their second language. Rather than just proofreading final manuscripts, we specialise in intensive editing of draft work, including advice on structure and content.

Building on that success, we have since expanded to offer a full range of editing services for general purposes, before starting to specialise in the two major growth areas for editing and writing: first, supporting individuals and small institutions who were creating their own web content; and then offering professional editorial services to the increasing number of writers who have been taking the route to self-publishing their work.
