Services Writing, rewriting, editing, proofreading, fact checking, research
I can help you if:
* You are an experienced writer or an organisation with a completed document that communicates precisely what you want it to. You may have already had it professionally copyedited. But it needs one last check from a well-trained pair of eyes before it is published. My proofreading service is for you. I proofread student work only with supervisor consent.
* You are a writer or organisation with a story or message already written. But you need some help to remove errors and make it clearer, more concise and to read better, or to highlight any aspects that don’t quite work. Basically, it needs a little more work before it’s ready to publish. My copyediting service is for you.
* You have a subject and facts or research that you need transformed into a coherent article or report. My writing service may be suitable so please get in touch to discuss what you need. This service is only available for writing in my specialist knowledge areas. Please note, I do not write or copyedit essays for students.
I was trained by the Publishing Training Centre and the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (now the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading) to provide an excellent service in preparing written materials for publication. I work with major publishers including HarperCollins, Bloomsbury and Princeton University Press, and with organisations including the National Trust and Plymouth University.
I am a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading so you can be assured of my skills and experience. I adhere to their Code of Practice. You can visit my entry in their directory here.

Ecology and nature conservation experience
I can bring wildlife and nature conservation expertise and working knowledge to your writing. I spent years communicating about nature to a range of audiences from academics to school children. I managed biodiversity projects for Dartmoor National Park Authority for 13 years, and previously worked for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust (six years) and Scottish Wildlife Trust (five years). During this time I wrote and edited many reports, articles, newsletters, presentations, leaflets/fliers and corporate documents.
Since then I have worked as a professional editor with major publishers and organisations as well as independent writers to ensure effective preparation of manuscripts and publications.
I have travelled widely and have strong interests in trekking, walking in the countryside and sport. If you would like me to assist with writing about these or other subjects, please get in touch.

I am hugely satisfied with your work on my documents. GP, PhD applicant
Frances worked as a proofreader on the copy for our new website. At the outset I asked her if she was willing to do more than proofreading and she was happy to help with editing and fact checking. She worked very professionally and I was impressed by her attention to detail. As well as providing an excellent proofreading service she made sense of some of our text which was overcomplicated. I received high quality work from her and I was able to rely on her to send me work that was ready to upload. Frances was easy to work with, sending regular updates and meeting all deadlines. She exhibited a real interest and knowledge in our work and was a pleasure to work with. Jody Vallance, Communications Officer, Moors for the Future Partnership
You’ve done a fantastic job … I’m really happy with the work you have carried out and you deserve a huge pat on the back. It can sometimes be a bit tricky when working with new freelancers but this has been a breeze! I’ll be sure to keep you in mind for future projects. Editor, Collins Learning (HarperCollins)
The books are always better with your input. Managing Editor, Collins Learning (HarperCollins)

Mrs Cooper offers to carry out quality proofreading, in a really short-time. I sent her my CV and cover letter just a few days ago, and I received a corrected version yesterday.
Frances has pointed out every single detail that wasn’t appropriate. Her contribution was very helpful for me to get quality documents: I highly recommend her !
Frances has great attention to detail. She delivered the project before the deadline. Highly recommended!
