As a proofreader I can read words with fresh eyes, something that is difficult for the original author or copywriter to do. Without altering the style or tone of a piece of writing, I will mark up recommended changes while carrying out a meticulous check of spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency and formatting. In addition to proofreading, I also provide a copywriting service and can help businesses with writing the content for marketing materials, case studies, websites and reports.
I achieved a merit in the Basic Proofreading Distance Learning course run by the Publishing Training Centre, and I am competent in using British Standard proofreading symbols, if required. I do find, though, that my clients generally prefer me to proofread using Track Changes in Word or using comments tools in PDF. That suits my clients, so that’s what I do.
