About Bill Roberts

Hello! My name is Bill and I’m an academic and non-fiction proofreader.

My specialist areas include art history, history, philosophy, cultural studies, cultural theory, sociology, political economy and anthropology, but I enjoy working across all areas of the humanities and discursive social sciences.

I provide a professional, friendly and tailored proofreading service to researchers and writers, focusing on academic articles and books and general non-fiction.

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), and have completed proofreading training with the CIEP and the Publishing Training Centre (PTC), achieving a merit (86.3%) in the PTC’s widely recognised Essential Proofreading course.

I have an academic background in modern and contemporary art history, and I have taught and published in the field for well over a decade.

This means that I have considerable experience of the editorial process from the author’s standpoint, a strong appreciation of the importance of clear and correct English and an excellent understanding of the conventions of academic writing.

Since no two proofreading projects are the same, my quotes vary according to the level of intervention required and the complexity of the brief in each case (for instance, whether you require proofreading of any footnotes or endnotes). As a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, I use their suggested hourly rates to guide my pricing.
