About Barbara Jarratt - Editorial Services

I’ve always loved books and the workings of the English language. I have a BA (Hons) in English language and literature, and I trained as an English and ESL teacher.

My teaching career spanned a few decades, in the UK, and in Botswana, Portugal, Brunei, and Taiwan. I taught up to A level and IB in English language, literature, and media studies, with some specialist EFL, too. I finished up in Dorset, UK as a Head of Dept in a prestigious girls’ grammar school. My work in the education sector (including with an examining body) means I really understand the importance of academic integrity and fine detail.

Since stepping away from the classroom, I have completed a Masters in Creative Writing, while working part-time as a research assistant for the Department of Psychiatry at Oxford University, gathering data in schools for a nationwide study.

My comprehensive training in proofreading, with the Publishing Training Company led to my freelance work with authors, academics, charities and businesses on a wide range of projects. As a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, I’m signed up to their code of conduct, and my experience and training have been vetted and approved by people who know their stuff!

I’m still based in Dorset where, alongside proofreading, I find time for my own writing and manage two Airbnb rooms within our home. I live with my husband, his Mum, and our delightful little grey lurcher.
