About Barbara Jarratt - Editorial Services

I’ve always loved books and the workings of the English language. I have a BA (Hons) in English language and literature, and I worked as an English and ESL teacher, before undertaking training in proofreading and copy-editing.

My teaching career spanned a few decades, in the UK, and in Botswana, Portugal, Brunei, and Taiwan. I taught up to A level and IB level. My work in the education sector (including with an examining body) means I really understand the importance of academic integrity and fine detail.

After stepping away from the classroom, I completed a Master’s in Creative Writing, while working part-time as a research assistant for the Department of Psychiatry at Oxford.

My comprehensive training in proofreading, with the Publishing Training Company led to my freelance work with academic publishers, authors, academics, charities and businesses on a wide range of projects. As an Intermediate member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, I’m signed up to their code of conduct, and my experience and training have been vetted and approved by people who know their stuff!

I’m based in Cornwall where, alongside proofreading, I still find time for my own writing. I live with my husband, his Mum, and our delightful little grey lurcher.
